This Bergama handknotted rug is a great example of a well-known design type from the prolific Bergama (ancient Pergamon) region of Western Turkey. Unlike most others of this group, this one has a thick pile, which indicates that it is probably a nomadic weaving. Very finely woven, with soft and lustrous wool. This hand-knotted rug is all wool with natural dtes and a highly collectible piece.
The Bergama Hand Knotted Rug is characterized by a central medallion surrounded by a variety of smaller geometric motifs, forming a kaleidoscopic appearance. The palette is limited to red, blue, and ivory tones.
